The main reason why I became a member of the Conservative Party is that the Tory party is natural to my political beliefs.  Conservatism accepts the concept of original sin (all humanity is flawed) and Conservatism is geared to accept this stark reality of life.

The economics of Conservatism is based on our competitive nature and allowing businesses the freedom to compete in the market place. This in turn drives efficiency as businesses compete to offer better products at lower prices than their main rivals.

Some people find it difficult to understand how a Christian can be a Conservative  when Socialism advocates equality for all people. Socialism has failed to recognise the realities of mans weaknesses. I have occasionally heard the argument that Communism could work but it has never been seen in its purest form, in theory this maybe true, but no socialist model will ever escape mans corruption.

Conservative principles whilst seeming harsh in theory, prove kinder in reality and has a far more beneficial effect on society. Jobs are created where needed unlike the Socialist model that creates jobs artificially and forces up inflation. The Conservative model provides a strong economy and this means less people are relying on state benefits and more money is going into the tax system.  This allows us to provide adequate funding for the NHS, policing and education.

Conservatism also believes in the principles of a strong rule of law.  Offenders should be punished and not the victim.  We believe in the defence of our institutions, one of which is the strong connection of the Party to the Church. We believe in standing up for our Monarchy and Sovereignty.  We fight to keep our traditions and the right to govern ourselves. The Party strongly defends marriage and the family as being an important building block in life.

Also I have a strong respect for two former leaders of the party who served a total of 18 years in power, which was also the first 18 years of my Life. Margaret Thatcher and John Major both influenced me in very different ways this encouraged me to join the party and make a difference myself.

Margaret Thatcher was someone who I felt showed great strength.  She proved you can defy all the odds by becoming the first woman Prime Minister in 1979.  Thatcher had many critics but believed in what she was doing and never backed down.  As a result Thatcher transformed our country taking us away from being the sick man of Europe.

John Major won my respect as someone who showed integrity and sincerity during his time as the British Premier.  I had great respect for the way in which he challenged for his own leadership and went on to create the strongest post war economy our country has ever seen.

I first became a member of the Conservative Party after our General Election defeat in 1997.  My aim then as it is now is to aid the Conservatives return back to the heart of government in Westminster.
